Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:
Then I will remove Israel from the land I have given them, and I will reject this temple that I have made holy for my name. Israel will become a joke and an insult among all nations.
God is warning that if Israel turns away from Him, He will remove them from their promised land and make them an example of failure to other nations.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of 1 Kings, God is speaking to King Solomon shortly after the dedication of the temple in Jerusalem, reaffirming His covenant with Israel. This warning comes as part of a conditional promise, where blessings depend on obedience and turning away from God would lead to exile and disgrace. It reflects the historical era of the united kingdom under Solomon, foreshadowing the eventual consequences of idolatry that led to the nation's downfall.
