Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.
Listen from heaven where you live, and do everything that foreigners ask of you. Do this so that all people on earth will know your name and respect you, just like your people Israel do. Let them know that this temple I have built belongs to you.
Solomon is praying that God will answer the prayers of foreigners so that people everywhere will come to know and honor God.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of Solomon's prayer at the dedication of the newly completed temple in Jerusalem around 960 BC. Solomon is asking God to make the temple a place where even non-Israelites can come and have their prayers heard. This reflects God's broader plan to reach all nations, not just Israel.
