📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of 1 Samuel, David was fleeing from King Saul, who was pursuing him out of jealousy and fear that David would usurp his throne, as David had been anointed as the future king. After David and his men rescued the town of Keilah from Philistine attacks, they had to leave quickly because Saul was closing in, leading David to seek refuge in remote and defensible areas. Engedi, located in the wilderness of Judah, was a region with natural caves and cliffs that provided strategic strongholds for hiding and survival during this period of conflict around 1000 BC.
