And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
And it will happen that everyone left in your family will come and bow down to him for a small coin and a bit of bread, and will say, 'Please, I beg you, give me one of the priest jobs so I can have something to eat.'
God is warning that Eli's descendants will lose their honored position and be reduced to begging for basic priest jobs just to survive.
📚 Historical Context
This is part of God's judgment pronounced against Eli, the high priest, because he failed to restrain his corrupt sons who were abusing their priestly duties. God was removing the priesthood from Eli's family line and giving it to another family. This prophecy was fulfilled generations later when Solomon removed the last of Eli's descendants from the priesthood.
