And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
Samuel never visited Saul again for the rest of his life. But Samuel grieved deeply for Saul, and the LORD regretted making Saul king over Israel.
This verse shows that even though Samuel cut off his relationship with Saul, he still grieved for him, and God deeply regretted choosing Saul as king.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of 1 Samuel, Saul was anointed as Israel's first king by the prophet Samuel, but his reign was marked by disobedience when he failed to fully carry out God's command to destroy the Amalekites. This act of partial obedience led God to reject Saul as king, signaling the end of their divine favor toward him. As a result, Samuel, who had served as God's messenger, chose not to visit Saul again, reflecting the broken relationship between the prophet and the wayward king.
