But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.
But now your kingdom will not last. The LORD has found a man who truly follows his heart, and the LORD has chosen him to be the leader of his people, because you have not obeyed what the LORD commanded you.
God is telling Saul that his kingdom will end because of his disobedience, and God has already chosen someone else whose heart is aligned with His own to be the next king.
📚 Historical Context
In the early days of Israel's monarchy, King Saul was chosen by God through the prophet Samuel to lead the nation, but he struggled with obedience to divine commands. When Saul impatiently offered a sacrifice that only a priest was authorized to perform, he directly disobeyed God's instructions as given through Samuel. As a result, God announced that He would seek a new leader, a man after His own heart, to replace Saul and guide His people.
