📚 Historical Context
In the first century, the apostle Peter wrote his letter to encourage early Christians enduring persecution, drawing parallels between their sufferings and Christ's own experiences. This verse refers to Jesus, after His crucifixion, descending to proclaim His victory to the spirits in prison, which many interpret as the fallen angels or the souls of those who rebelled during Noah's time, as described in Jewish traditions and the Old Testament. It highlights Christ's triumph over sin and death in the spiritual realm.
