Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name.
However, you will not be the one to build the temple; instead, your son who will be born to you, he will build the temple for my name.
God is telling David that while he won't build the temple himself, his son will have that honor instead.
📚 Historical Context
In the historical context of ancient Israel, King David wanted to build a temple for God to replace the mobile Tabernacle, but God informed him through the prophet Nathan that he was not the one to do it because David had been a warrior. Instead, God promised that David's son, Solomon, would construct the temple as a place for God's name. This promise was fulfilled during Solomon's reign, marking a significant step in Israel's religious and national history.
