For it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.
The moment you leave Jerusalem and cross the Kidron stream, you can be absolutely certain that you will die. Your death will be your own fault.
King Solomon is giving a final warning that crossing a specific boundary will result in certain death, and the person will be responsible for their own fate.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, King Solomon had just ascended to the throne after his father David's death and was consolidating power by addressing potential threats from those who had opposed David. Shimei, who had cursed David during Absalom's rebellion, was spared by David but now faced restrictions from Solomon, including house arrest in Jerusalem. This warning about crossing the Kidron brook served as a means to enforce loyalty and maintain order in the early days of Solomon's reign.
