Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,
Go speak to Rehoboam, Solomon's son who is king of Judah, and to everyone in the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the rest of the people. Tell them:
God is giving a message to be delivered to King Rehoboam and all the people of the southern kingdom of Judah.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes from a time when the united kingdom of Israel had just split into two after Solomon's death, with Rehoboam as the new king of the southern tribes. The northern tribes rebelled against Rehoboam's harsh rule, leading to the formation of a separate kingdom, and this created tension that could escalate into civil war. God sends the prophet Shemaiah to deliver a message of restraint to Rehoboam and the people of Judah, emphasizing divine wisdom over human conflict.
