For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
When you all eat together, everyone just grabs their own food first without thinking about anyone else. So some people are still hungry while others have had way too much to drink.
Don't be the person who takes care of yourself while ignoring everyone else at the table.
📚 Historical Context
In the first-century Corinthian church, the Lord's Supper was often part of a shared meal where believers gathered to remember Christ's sacrifice, but social divisions among the members disrupted this practice. Wealthier individuals would eat and drink excessively before others arrived, leading to some going hungry while others became drunk, which highlighted issues of inequality and selfishness in the community. This behavior reflected broader cultural problems in Corinth, a diverse and stratified society, and prompted Paul to address the need for unity in the church.
