📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Chronicles, which serves as a historical record of Israel's tribes and their genealogies after the conquest of Canaan, the Reubenites are described as engaging in conflicts to secure their territory east of the Jordan River. During the reign of King Saul, an early monarch of Israel, the Reubenites fought and defeated the Hagarites, a nomadic group likely descended from Hagar, which allowed them to settle in the eastern lands of Gilead. This event reflects the ongoing tribal wars and expansions that characterized the Israelites' efforts to establish and maintain their inheritance in the ancient Near East.
