And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.
And give my son Solomon a heart that is completely devoted to you, so he will obey your commands, follow your laws, and keep your rules. Help him do all these things and build the temple, which I have prepared everything for.
David is praying that God will give his son Solomon a heart fully committed to obeying God and completing the temple that David has prepared for.
📚 Historical Context
This is part of King David's final prayer before the Israelites as he prepares to pass the throne to his son Solomon. David had gathered all the materials and made extensive preparations for building God's temple in Jerusalem, but God had told him that Solomon would be the one to actually construct it. This prayer comes at the end of David's reign as he entrusts both his kingdom and the sacred temple project to his son.
