And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
Tell him this message from the Lord who rules everything: 'Look, there's this man called The Branch, and he's going to grow up right where he is and build the Lord's temple.'
God's got someone special growing up who's going to build something amazing for him.
📚 Historical Context
Zechariah was a prophet who ministered to the Jewish people after their return from exile in Babylon during the Persian Empire's rule. In this verse, he uses the symbol of "The Branch" to point to a future leader, often interpreted as the Messiah, who would restore and build God's temple amid the challenges of rebuilding Jerusalem. This prophecy encouraged the discouraged exiles to persevere in their physical reconstruction efforts while anticipating a greater spiritual fulfillment.
