And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
And I have chosen your fellow Israelites, the Levites, from among all the people of Israel. They are given to you as a gift from the LORD to serve in the tabernacle where the community worships.
God is telling Aaron that He has specially chosen the Levites to help the priests serve in the tabernacle as a gift from the LORD.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of God's instructions to Aaron about the roles and responsibilities in Israel's worship system. The Levites were one of the twelve tribes of Israel, descended from Levi, and God set them apart for special service in the tabernacle. Unlike the other tribes who received land inheritance, the Levites were given the privilege of serving God directly and assisting the priests (who came from Aaron's family within the tribe of Levi).
