Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

The spies are reporting that the Promised Land has powerful enemies living in well-fortified cities, including the giant Anakim people.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Numbers, the Israelites were on the brink of entering the Promised Land after their exodus from Egypt, having wandered in the desert for years. Moses sent twelve spies to scout Canaan and bring back a report on the land's resources, people, and defenses. The spies, including the ones speaking in this verse, described the inhabitants as powerful warriors, the cities as heavily fortified and enormous, and they noted the presence of the tall Anakites, which heightened their fear and doubt.
