Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name in those things which they hallow unto me: I am the LORD.
Tell Aaron and his sons that they must keep themselves separate from the holy things that belong to the people of Israel, so that they don't treat my holy name with disrespect in the things they set apart for me. I am the LORD.
God is telling the priests to maintain proper reverence and separation when handling sacred things so they don't dishonor His holy name.
📚 Historical Context
This instruction was given to Moses for Aaron and his sons, who served as priests in ancient Israel. The priests had special responsibilities for handling sacred offerings, temple items, and religious ceremonies that the people brought to God. Because they represented God to the people, their conduct with holy things had to be above reproach to maintain the sanctity of worship.
