Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.
You must not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. You must not marry or have sexual relations with her granddaughter (either her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter). They are close relatives, and this is evil.
God is forbidding sexual relationships within close family connections, calling such behavior wicked and harmful.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of the Holiness Code in Leviticus, given to the Israelites after their exodus from Egypt around 1400-1200 BCE. God was establishing moral and ceremonial laws to set His people apart from the pagan practices of surrounding nations like Egypt and Canaan. These sexual prohibitions were meant to protect family structures and distinguish Israel from cultures that practiced various forms of incest and sexual immorality.
