All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.
As long as the disease is in him, he will be unclean and defiled. He must live alone, outside the camp where everyone else lives.
This verse describes how someone with a contagious skin disease must be isolated from the community until they are healed.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of God's detailed instructions to Moses about identifying and handling skin diseases among the Israelites in the wilderness. These laws served both spiritual and practical purposes - maintaining ritual purity for worship while also preventing the spread of contagious diseases in the close quarters of the camp. The priest acted as both spiritual leader and community health officer.
