📚 Historical Context
This occurs after a devastating civil war where the other eleven tribes of Israel nearly wiped out the tribe of Benjamin over a horrific crime. The Israelites had sworn not to give their daughters to Benjamin men as wives, creating a crisis for the tribe's survival. They attacked Jabesh-gilead (who hadn't joined the war against Benjamin) and took the unmarried women as a partial solution.
