And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
All of that generation died and joined their ancestors. Then a new generation grew up after them who did not know the LORD or remember the amazing things he had done for Israel.
This verse describes how an entire generation passed away, and the next generation grew up without knowing God or remembering his faithful acts toward their people.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Judges, this verse describes the period shortly after Joshua's death, when the generation that had directly experienced God's deliverance from Egypt and the conquest of Canaan passed away. This left a subsequent generation in Israel that had not witnessed these events firsthand, leading to a lack of knowledge about the Lord and His mighty works. As a result, the nation began to drift into cycles of disobedience and idolatry, setting the stage for the judges' stories.
