In the Book of Joshua, after the Israelites had conquered the Promised Land, Joshua addressed the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh who lived on the east side of the Jordan River. These tribes had promised to help the other tribes conquer the land west of the Jordan, as instructed by Moses, and they faithfully fulfilled that commitment. Joshua is now praising them for their obedience to both Moses's commands and his own leadership.
