And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.
Joshua gave Caleb, son of Jephunneh, a portion of land among the people of Judah, just as the LORD had commanded Joshua to do. He gave him the city of Arba (who was the father of Anak), which is the city of Hebron.
This verse shows God fulfilling His promise to Caleb by giving him the city of Hebron as his inheritance, just as He had commanded Joshua to do.
📚 Historical Context
Caleb was one of the twelve spies who explored the Promised Land forty-five years earlier, and unlike the other spies, he trusted God's promise that Israel could conquer the land. Hebron was a significant city inhabited by the Anakim, who were giants that had terrified the other spies. God had promised Caleb this specific city because of his faithfulness and courage.
