Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.
Now Joshua was old and getting on in years, and the LORD said to him, 'You are old and getting on in years, and there is still very much land left to be taken.'
God is telling the aging Joshua that even though he's getting old, there's still a lot of work left to do in claiming the promised land.
📚 Historical Context
This occurs after Joshua had led Israel in conquering much of Canaan, but significant portions of the promised land remained unconquered. Joshua was likely in his 80s or 90s at this point, having served as Moses' successor and military leader for many years. God was preparing to give Joshua instructions about dividing the remaining unconquered territories among the tribes of Israel.
