Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.
So listen, the time is coming, says the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Tophet or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. People will bury the dead in Tophet until there's no room left.
God is warning that a place once used for horrific idol worship will become so filled with death and burial that it will be renamed the Valley of Slaughter.
📚 Historical Context
Tophet was a location in the Valley of Hinnom (south of Jerusalem) where people practiced child sacrifice to foreign gods like Molech, burning their children alive as offerings. This detestable practice had contaminated the holy land and provoked God's severe judgment. Jeremiah was prophesying that this very place of abomination would become overcrowded with graves as divine punishment fell upon the nation.
