Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
This is what the LORD says: Stop where you are on the roads and look around. Ask about the ancient paths—find out where the good way is, and walk on it. Then you will find rest for your souls. But the people said, 'We will not walk on it.'
God is calling His people to return to the tried-and-true ways of faithfulness that bring peace to the soul, but they refuse to listen.
📚 Historical Context
Jeremiah spoke these words around 600 BC as Judah was spiraling toward destruction due to their abandonment of God's ways. The people had adopted pagan practices and ignored God's laws, choosing instead to follow the customs of surrounding nations. Despite God's patient call to return to the paths of righteousness that had blessed their ancestors, the people stubbornly rejected His guidance.
