For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.
Listen up, I'm bringing together a whole alliance of powerful nations from the north to come against Babylon. They're going to line up their armies and take her down. Their archers are so skilled that every single arrow will hit its mark, not one shot will be wasted.
When God decides your time is up, he doesn't miss.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the prophet Jeremiah, Babylon was a powerful empire that had conquered Judah, destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem, and exiled many of its people, leading to widespread suffering. In this verse, God declares through Jeremiah that He will summon nations from the north, historically identified as the Medes and Persians, to attack and overthrow Babylon as divine judgment for its arrogance and oppression. This prophecy was fulfilled in 539 BC when the Persian king Cyrus captured Babylon, allowing the exiled Jews to return home.
