Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
Therefore, this is what the LORD says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: None of his descendants will sit on David's throne, and when he dies, his body will be thrown out exposed to the scorching heat during the day and the freezing cold at night.
God is declaring that King Jehoiakim's family line will end and he will receive a disgraceful burial as punishment for his rebellion.
📚 Historical Context
During the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah in the 6th century BC, the prophet Jeremiah was warning the people of God's impending judgment due to their persistent idolatry and rebellion against His commands. Jehoiakim demonstrated his defiance by burning a scroll containing Jeremiah's prophecies, an act that symbolized rejection of God's word. In response, God delivered this specific prophecy through Jeremiah, foretelling the downfall of Jehoiakim's dynasty and the dishonor of his body as a consequence of his actions.
