Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Hearken not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’s house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.
I also spoke to the priests and all the people, saying, 'This is what the LORD says: Don't listen to your prophets who are telling you that the temple treasures will soon be brought back from Babylon. They are lying to you.'
God is warning His people not to believe false prophets who are giving them false hope about a quick return of the temple treasures from Babylon.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of Jeremiah, the nation of Judah was under threat from the Babylonian Empire, which had already invaded and taken sacred items from the Jerusalem temple as part of their conquests. False prophets were misleading the people by promising that these temple vessels would be returned soon, offering false hope amid the chaos of exile. Jeremiah, as God's true prophet, was delivering a direct warning to the priests and the people not to trust these deceptive messages, as they contradicted God's actual plans for judgment and restoration.
