He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.
He defended the rights of the poor and needy, and because of this, things went well for him. Isn't this what it means to truly know me? says the LORD.
God is saying that truly knowing Him means caring for and defending poor and needy people, and when we do this, we experience His blessing.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of God's message through the prophet Jeremiah about King Josiah, one of Judah's righteous kings who ruled from 640-609 BC. Josiah was being praised for his justice and care for the vulnerable, in contrast to his son Jehoiakim who was corrupt and oppressive. This came during a time when Judah was facing increasing threats from Babylon and needed godly leadership.
