Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.
Then Zerubbabel (son of Shealtiel) and Jeshua (son of Jozadak) got up and began to rebuild God's temple in Jerusalem. The prophets of God were there helping them with this work.
This verse shows how God's leaders responded to prophetic encouragement by taking action to rebuild the temple, with God's prophets supporting their efforts.
📚 Historical Context
During the Babylonian exile, the Jews were taken captive and their Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed, marking a period of great spiritual and national loss. After Cyrus the Great of Persia conquered Babylon, he issued a decree allowing the Jews to return and rebuild their Temple, but opposition from local authorities had halted the work earlier. In Ezra 5:2, Zerubbabel and Jeshua, as appointed leaders, resumed the construction with the encouragement and help of prophets like Haggai and Zechariah, showing God's ongoing provision for His people.
