Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;
This is what the Lord God says: Edom crossed a major line with Judah, they went full revenge mode and seriously hurt them when they were already down.
God sees when people kick others while they're down, and he's not having it.
📚 Historical Context
In the 6th century BC, during the Babylonian exile, the prophet Ezekiel was delivering God's messages of judgment against nations that had opposed Israel, including Edom, which was descended from Esau and had a history of rivalry with Jacob's descendants. Edom took advantage of Judah's vulnerability during the Babylonian invasions by attacking and seeking revenge, which exemplified their ongoing enmity. This context underscores God's role as the defender of His people against unjust aggression.
