📚 Historical Context
Jethro was Moses' father-in-law, a Midianite priest who lived in the wilderness. Moses had fled to Midian years earlier after killing an Egyptian, married Jethro's daughter Zipporah, and worked as a shepherd before God called him to lead Israel out of Egypt. Now Moses has returned to tell Jethro about all the miraculous ways God delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage.
