Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.
But they didn't listen to Moses. Some of them saved part of it until morning, and it became full of worms and started to smell terrible. Moses was angry with them.
The writer is showing that when people disobey God's clear instructions, the results are unpleasant and disappointing.
📚 Historical Context
This verse occurs during Israel's 40-year journey in the wilderness after escaping Egypt. God had begun providing manna (bread from heaven) each morning to feed the people, but He specifically commanded them to gather only what they needed for each day and not to save any overnight. Some Israelites disobeyed this instruction, trying to hoard the manna.
