Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.
But they didn't listen to Moses. Some of them saved part of it until morning, and it became full of worms and started to smell terrible. Moses was angry with them.
The writer is showing that when people disobey God's clear instructions, the results are unpleasant and disappointing.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Exodus, the Israelites had recently been delivered from slavery in Egypt and were traveling through the wilderness, facing challenges like hunger. God miraculously provided manna, a bread-like substance, each morning as food, with specific instructions through Moses to gather only enough for one day and not to keep any leftovers overnight. This command was part of God's way to teach the Israelites daily dependence on Him and the importance of obedience in their covenant relationship.
