This verse refers to two of the ten plagues God sent upon Egypt to pressure Pharaoh into releasing the Israelites from slavery. The plague of flies was the fourth plague, and the plague of lice (or gnats) was the third plague described in Exodus. These supernatural infestations demonstrated God's power over nature and His determination to free His people.
