Zion originally referred to the hill in Jerusalem where King David established his capital and where Solomon later built the Temple. This psalm celebrates God's covenant with David and His promise to make Jerusalem His dwelling place among the Israelites. The Temple on Mount Zion became the center of Jewish worship and the symbol of God's presence with His people.
