Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.
In the book of Numbers, the Israelites were encamped in the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt, as they prepared for their journey to the Promised Land. The leaders of the twelve tribes brought offerings for the dedication of the altar in the tabernacle, a portable sanctuary where God dwelt among His people. God instructed Moses to take these offerings and distribute them to the Levites, who were specifically chosen and assigned for the maintenance and service of the tabernacle according to their designated roles.
