For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.
In the book of Numbers, the Israelites were on the brink of entering the Promised Land after their exodus from Egypt, having wandered in the wilderness due to unbelief. Moses sent twelve spies to scout Canaan, and they explored the Valley of Eshcol, where they saw the land's rich produce but also its challenges. However, ten of the spies returned with a fearful report that discouraged the people from trusting God and moving forward into the territory He had sworn to give them.
