📚 Contexto Histórico
In the Book of Numbers, the Israelites were encamped on the plains of Moab, preparing to enter the Promised Land after years of wilderness wandering. God had commanded them to wage war against the Midianites as retribution for the Midianites' role in leading Israel into idolatry and immorality, as seen in the earlier Baal of Peor incident. After defeating the Midianites, the Israelite forces returned with captives, livestock, and other spoils to Moses, the priest Eleazar, and the community at their camp near the Jordan River opposite Jericho.
