This verse is part of the second census taken of Israel in the wilderness, about 39 years after leaving Egypt and just before entering the Promised Land. The tribe of Manasseh was one of the half-tribes descended from Joseph's son Manasseh, and this count included only men aged 20 and older who were able to go to war.
