Balaam was a non-Israelite prophet hired by King Balak of Moab to curse the Israelites as they journeyed toward the Promised Land. However, God repeatedly forced Balaam to bless Israel instead of curse them. This is the beginning of Balaam's fourth and final oracle, which would contain some of the most significant messianic prophecies in the Old Testament.
