In the Book of Numbers, the Israelites were encamped near the land of Moab during their wilderness journey, and the Moabite king Balak feared their growing numbers and power. He hired Balaam, a pagan prophet from a different region, to curse the Israelites in an attempt to weaken them. As Balaam traveled on his donkey to carry out this task, God intervened by sending an angel to block the path, visible only to the animal, highlighting divine protection over His people.
