This verse concludes the census and redemption process of the firstborn Israelites in the wilderness. According to God's law, since the Levites were fewer in number than the firstborn of other tribes, the extra firstborn (273 men) had to be redeemed with silver. The money collected from this redemption was then given to Aaron and his sons, the priests, as part of their provision for serving in the tabernacle.
