This verse comes from God's instructions about counting the Levites and redeeming Israel's firstborn sons. Since there were more firstborn Israelites than Levites to replace them in temple service, the extra firstborn had to be 'bought back' with money. Aaron and his sons, as the high priests, were to receive this redemption money as part of their priestly support system.
