This concludes the story of Balaam, a non-Israelite prophet whom King Balak of Moab had hired to curse the Israelites as they approached the Promised Land. Despite Balak's repeated attempts and generous offers, God had turned every intended curse into a blessing for Israel. After four failed attempts, both men recognized the futility of opposing God's will and went their separate ways.
