In the first century, Jesus was drawing large crowds in Galilee as He taught and performed miracles, and on this occasion, a multitude had packed a house in Capernaum to hear Him. When four friends brought a paralyzed man for healing, they couldn't reach Jesus through the crowd, so they climbed onto the flat roof of the house, which was typically made of beams, mud, and thatch. They then dug through the roof and lowered the man on his mat directly in front of Jesus, demonstrating their extraordinary faith and determination.
