In the time of Moses, the Israelites were in the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt, receiving detailed laws from God to establish a holy community distinct from surrounding pagan cultures. These laws in Leviticus focused on ritual purity and sacrifices, ensuring that worshippers approached God without defilement to maintain their covenant relationship. Specifically, Leviticus 7:21 warned against touching unclean things and then eating sacred offerings, as this could lead to exclusion from the community to preserve overall holiness.
