And of the rest of the oil that is in his hand shall the priest put upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the blood of the trespass offering:
In the Old Testament, the book of Leviticus provided detailed instructions for priests on maintaining ceremonial purity among the Israelites, including rituals for those healed from diseases like leprosy. This verse describes a specific part of the purification ceremony, where oil was applied to the right ear, thumb, and big toe of the cleansed person after blood from the trespass offering, symbolizing the restoration of the individual to full community and spiritual wholeness. These practices underscored the ancient Israelite emphasis on physical and moral cleanliness as a reflection of their covenant relationship with God.
