In the Book of Judges, the Israelites repeatedly turned away from God to worship idols, leading to a cycle of sin, oppression, and deliverance by judges raised by God. By Judges 10, Israel had again forsaken the Lord and engaged in idolatry, which provoked His anger and resulted in their vulnerability to enemies. As a consequence, God allowed the Philistines and Ammonites to oppress them as a form of divine discipline to call them back to faithfulness.
