This prophecy was given by Jeremiah around 627-586 BC, warning of the coming Babylonian invasion. The Babylonians were indeed an ancient and mighty nation whose Akkadian language would have been foreign to the Hebrew-speaking Israelites. This judgment came because Israel had repeatedly turned away from God despite His warnings through the prophets.
